Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Staff Services Manager I and unit’s Crime Analyst (CA) III, the CA II independently performs intermediate analytical functions associated with the operations of the Violent Crime Investigative Support Section. These functions support law enforcement agency (LEA) investigations involving violent crimes, i.e., homicide, kidnaping, and sexual assault, for the purpose of developing additional investigative leads and aiding in prosecution. The CA II prepares and assembles analytical findings into a final product, which may include case reports, PowerPoint presentations or other media and forwards materials to other CA staff for review. Additionally, the CA II works closely with the requesting law enforcement agency to provide recommendations and analysis based upon their findings, utilizing peer reviewed final products. The CA II also acts as the lead trainer for unit CA I staff and develops materials for and conducts training for various LEAs in support of unit functions. Additionally, the CA II performs follow-up case work as recommended by the LEA, CA III, or as necessary and performs peer reviews of analytical products (case reports, presentations, time lines, etc.) for grammar, accuracy of data, and strength of analytical findings.

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for telework in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. A teleworker is considered Remote-centered if they work fifty percent or more of their time from an alternate work location. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

    2. As a VCISS team member you will work in a collaborative environment but will be expected to independently complete assignments as well. Describe a time when you had to resolve a challenging situation independently. What methods were used and what was the outcome of the situation?
