Description


The City of Richmond's Department of Public Works is seeking a highly qualified individuals to fill the role of Urban Forestry Technician . This position will be responsible for providing direct support to the City's Urban Forester with a primary focus on developing Richmond's first Urban Forest Master Plan. The urban forestry technician will assist with urban tree canopy expansion through technical support, project implementation, event coordination, and community engagement during the master planning process. This position will be coordinating efforts within the master plan with community-based organizations and other associated city departments.

**This role is grant-funded, not to exceed five (5) years.**

Duties include but are not limited to


  • Direct assistance to Urban Forester activities
  • Responds to community related tree concerns
  • Provides guidance to community-based organization tree planting plans
  • Assists in community engagement for Urban Forestry Master Plan
  • Coordinates urban forestry goals across city departments
  • Implementation of urban and community forestry initiatives
  • Meets with contractors to ensure quality assurance of work

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses


MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Five years of experience working in an Urban Forestry (or similar) environment
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and/or OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • A valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
  • A valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Urban Forestry, Agriculture, Horticulture, Botany, or related field
  • International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification or ability to obtain within 2 years
